Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies

The Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies (CRES) serves as an information and resource center on Russia and the Newly Independent States (NIS) for students and faculty at the Monterey Institute, as well as the general public.

The Center's research agenda is focused on various aspects of political, social, and cultural developments in the NIS region. Current research topics include Russian negotiating behavior, arms control and security issues in the Soviet successor states, and Russian nuclear regionalism. Many CRES projects and activities are pursued jointly with the Monterey Institute's Russian Studies Program and the Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS).

CRES and the Russian Studies Program host a "Contemporary NIS Politics and Society" seminar series featuring lectures by distinguished scholars and policymakers. The CRES Library serves as an information collection branch for numerous CRES, CNS, and Monterey Institute projects and holds an extensive collection of periodicals and literature from Russia and other NIS states.
