The MonTREP Research Center | MonTREP Website
MonTREP supports the work of a wide variety of private and public institutions, ranging from government agencies to international organizations to academic foundations. These include, but are not limited to, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and several national laboratories.
MonTREP is also a major partner in the newly-created Homeland Security National Center for the Study of Terrorism and the Response to Terrorism (NC-START). NC-START is a consortium of educational and research institutions that received the competitive award to become the fourth Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence (DHS-COE).
The threat assessments generated by MONTREP combine regional and language expertise, technical assessments, scientific analyses, and historical and sociological research. Our staff relies on both in-house and outside expertise. Such an integrated approach allows MONTREP to conduct cutting-edge qualitative and quantitative studies on the study of terrorism, WMD, and international security.
Our experts examine the motivational factors that may lead terrorist groups to resort to various types of attacks in an effort to inform scholars and policymakers and to enhance the level of public knowledge about how and why such actors make strategic and tactical decisions. Our objective is to undertake projects where the results will have an impact on the formulation of policy and operational decision making while continuing to adhere to the highest scholarly standards.
The Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program offers courses for M.A. students in the Graduate School of International Policy Studies (GSIPS) specializing in Terrorism Studies.
