Your study plan will serve as a path through the GSIPS curriculum. Each Study Plan is designed to develop your core policy knowledge and professional skills relevant to your degree. You are supported by an Academic Faculty Advisor, and a Career Development Manager.
The Study Plan will be your roadmap into GSIPS, through the curriculum and beyond, into your chosen career. We will help you develop a plan to fit your background, academic and professional objectives.
We begin by assessing your background, previous education, career experiences, and policy interests to help you focus your ideas and goals towards the most relevant degree and/or specialization. You are encouraged to meet often with a Faculty Advisor to ensure that you are making the most of the GSIPS experience.
Key elements in your Study Plan include:
- A statement assessing your background - strengths and weaknesses.
- A statement of academic & professional objectives:
- What do you want to learn?
- Where would you like to work?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
- A set of core knowledge courses which will meet specific degree requirements.
- A plan to meet the core professional skills requirements - qualitative and quantitative analytic skills, management skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, as well as language and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Writing - how will you develop your writing skills?
- Professional experience - how can you practice your professional skills while at GSIPS?
- Internships?
- The International Professional Service Semester?
- The Development Project Management Institute?
- Courses with externships or simulation opportunities?
