Environ. Task Force | Net Impact | Environ. Security Assoc. | Private Reserves Network
In spring 2007, three students (Alan Grundy, Nathaniel Miller, and Brooks Bonner) created the Private Reserves Network (PRN) during a Monterey Institute of International Studies’ seminar on protected areas policy. They developed a website, under the guidance of Dr. Jeffrey Langholz, where private conservationists can exchange ideas on best practices. The network was designed to fulfill the pressing need for greater private conservation efforts as noted by the World Parks Congress in 2003. Since the website's launch, it has developed into a site for networking, as well as advertising between individuals, organizations, and private reserves.
Through outreach, PRN encourages private reserves and conservation organizations representing private protected areas to become members. PRN’s vision is to become a central figure in the international arena of private protected areas policy and management by creating a strong member base and remaining on the cutting edge of private conservation. Currently, PRN is developing an evaluation criteria and certification process for private reserves. In the fall 2007, PRN received a generous grant from the Weeden Foundation, whom we would like to thank for supporting PRN's efforts.
