Net Impact is an international non-profit organization with over 10,000 members in 160 chapters focused on using business as a tool to improve the world. The Monterey Institute Net Impact Chapter hosts an annual conference each spring, along with social events such as last year's carbon neutral happy hour and visits to nearby green businesses. On campus, the stated goal for this year is to obtain LEED certification for the Samson Center (our student cafeteria and lounge). Net Impact also hosts an ongoing speaker series in Monterey with professionals from a variety of fields about once a month. This year's speakers have included an environmental sustainability consultant and a portfolio officer at a social investing firm; this is a great opportunity to branch out and interact with business leaders who are implementing sustainable practices. It also provides an excellent avenue to interact with other graduate students at nearby universities through mutually hosted Net Impact functions.
