Millions of people around the world face a wide range of issues related to trade and development.
Consider these questions: How does trade contribute to community, national, and global development through access to technology, capital, and more? What role do multinational corporations play in shaping global development?
Do these questions inspire or intrigue you? If so, the Trade and Development Certificate Program could launch you on the path to become a true agent of global change.
Over a four-week period July 28 through August 21, 2008, this program will expose participants to an integrated curriculum covering trade and trade policy, development strategies and practice, and their overlap and interactions with other crucial global issues, such as the environment.
Instructional modules include both lectures and “hands-on” learning from case studies, simulations, and group discussions.
The program involves three weeks of intensive class and group work, with four days of field exposure to international trade experts working in agriculture and technology industries in Central California. Class meets Monday-Friday from 10-12pm and 2-4pm.
Students will also receive one-on-one career strategy services from the career team at the Graduate School of International Policy Studies at the Monterey Institute
Based upon the graduate level curriculum for the Master Degree in International Trade Policy (ITP) at the Monterey Institute, the Global Trade and Development Fellowship program is designed for upper-level undergraduate students, graduate students and beginning professionals.
Given the professional, skills-based components of the ITP Degree program, participants will have the unique opportunity to interact with senior trade faculty by fax or regular post if necessary.
(Not applicable to UWC fellowship recipients)
The fee for the four-week program is $2,500. This does not include airfare, daily meal costs, or lodging. Suggested housing options in the Monterey-area will be sent to accepted applicants.
All applicants who have completed (or will complete) at least their sophomore year of study, and who have completed an introductory course in economics by July of 2008, are eligible.
This program would be for any student with the aforementioned qualifications who might have an interest in global trade and development issues such as trade and the environment, trade and poverty alleviation, the WTO, trade negotiations, etc.
NOTE: The economics requirement can be met in a variety of ways. Should you have any questions about this requirement, please contact Carolyn Taylor at gtd@miis.edu or (831) 647-6417.
The new electronic 2008 application is now available. Supplemental application materials should be sent via email to gtd@miis.edu or send by fax to (831) 647-6417. International applicants should also complete our visa request form. This form needs to be complete by all international participants requiring an I-20 for F-1 student status.
You can still apply for this summer's program. The next application deadline is May 15, 2008.
