Career Paths

Like all degrees at the Monterey Institute, the MAITP promotes a combination of knowledge acquisition and professional skills development. Building an international career takes time, information, and guidance, but can also be an exciting, and rewarding experience. With thousands of Monterey Institute graduates holding professional policy jobs around the globe, the results of a sound career strategy are clear...A career strategy nets results!

The Monterey Career Development Model does more than advertise jobs to students - it prepares you to develop your career systematically, research the skills your target organizations seek, and actively utilize available resources to take control of your professional future.

GSIPS's Career Development staff does more than advertise jobs to students - it educates those students to develop their future careers, to research what skills their key organizations seek in an employee, and actively utilize the available resources to take control of their professional futures.

The GSIPS Career Seminar Series, conducted throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, provides the students with career training workshops covering an array of topics:

  • Developing a two-year career strategy
  • Creating your professional portfolio
  • Preparing resumes and cover letters that net interviews
  • Foreign language interview strategies: how to fbe culturally sensitive and professionally prepared
  • Networking at international and national job airs
  • Job searching on the Internet: bringing the world to you
  • Salary negotiations: how to acquire the benefits you deserve

The GSIPS Career Development staff ensures that students receive individual attention for their career-related needs, questions and resource requests.

As a result of the flexibility of degrees offered by GSIPS, graduates are employed in a wide range of professions throughout the world. Employers of GSIPS graduates know they have hired individuals who are professionally trained in research, program evaluation, analysis and an array of policy-relevant topics, have superb writing and research skills, are multi-lingual, and possess a high level of cultural sensitivity - attributes which translate into outstanding employees!
