Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a certificate and a degree program?

Certificate programs provide the opportunity for individuals who already have an advanced degree, or who do not wish to pursue one of the MA degrees at GSIPS, to acquire a level of expertise in a given policy field.  The certificates are designed for those with limited time or are interested only in a one-year study program.

2. As a non-Monterey Institute student, may I participate in the non-degree programs or certificates?

Yes. Once you enroll in the classes for a certificate, you are considered a student at the Monterey Institute, with access to all resources, faculty and staff.

For the Development Project Management Institute, you can be studying at another university or be a working professional, and opt to take the intensive three week program. You do not enroll as an official student at the Monterey Instiute for DPMI, although you do have access to the facilities (if attending the DPMI program in Monterey) and faculty/staff.
