Greetings! It is an honor to welcome you to the Graduate School of International Policy Studies (GSIPS). Our mission is to educate and empower international policy professionals for careers that impact today’s most urgent global problems. At GSIPS, I work with a staff and faculty dedicated to arming you with the knowledge and skills that will truly help you make a difference.
To ensure and maintain the most relevant focus for our students, we continuously monitor and assess global issues and then shape our curriculum to meet those needs. Upon arrival at GSIPS you are embarking on a journey that will provide you with the professional skills, knowledge, insights and experience required to compete for top international positions, those which put you in the thick of the global effort to prevent and cure diseases, confront terrorism and the proliferation of weapons, reduce poverty, create free and fair trade, resolve conflicts, work for sustainable development, promote human rights and equity, and build capacity in those organizations charged with addressing all these needs.
There has never been a greater need for sophisticated professionals with the cross-cultural skills and the commitment to help address the issues that extend beyond national borders. Preparing you to make a contribution to these efforts requires a faculty with a passion for teaching and mentoring. At GSIPS, our faculty is unequaled in the regard. We deliver unmatched training in the skills, cultural awareness and professional capabilities required to address today's challenges. The GSIPS curriculum will train you to work co-operatively in multilingual settings and will provide you with the professional tools to excel in your chosen field.
As Dean, I work closely with the GSIPS faculty and staff to provide an open and challenging intellectual environment. GSIPS is small enough for faculty and students to develop close working relationships and friendships, yet large enough to offer curricula with flexibility, depth and relevance.
I, along with many of my colleagues, often travel to see our graduates on the front lines where global policies and programs are continuously at work. We are always inspired by their dedication, energy and confidence, and by their remarkable accomplishments. Insights gained from their experiences are used to evaluate and update our GSIPS curriculum to ensure we are teaching the very latest in knowledge and skills. As you browse our website, please take the time to read about our graduates and the important work in which they are engaged. As you will see, GSIPS offers you a unique opportunity to join the many GSIPS alumni now serving throughout the world. My first priority is to always do what I can to help prepare you to join these world-class policy professionals. This is my opportunity to make a difference, and I take it very seriously.
We invite you to explore what GSIPS has to offer. Browse this website. Read more about the different degrees and programs. Look at the course offerings and opportunities for professional development. I encourage you to call or email our faculty with any questions you might have. Better yet, come and visit our classes to sample the unique global and multicultural flavor of GSIPS and the Monterey Institute.
I welcome you to contact the Dean's Office at any time to address your questions and interests. On behalf of everyone at GSIPS, we look forward to getting to know more about you and to help make your education a stimulating and rewarding experience.
Once again, welcome to the Monterey Institute's Graduate School of International Policy Studies.
