The Development Project Management Institute

Meet the challenges of global poverty through effective, field-based project management. Learn professional practices for promoting sustainable development under the guidance of renowned international development practitioners.

The Development Project Management Institute is a professional training program designed to prepare those who aspire to engage in humanitarian aid or long-term development work in Africa, Asia, Latin America or anywhere else extensive poverty is present. DPMI provides participants with the skills needed for effective professional practice in an environment that addresses both local and global responses to important development challenges. The DPMI program teaches practical skills such as project design, project monitoring, strategic partnering, and the training of trainers.

Offered three times a year, at three different locations, DPMI provides the flexibility and opportunity for working professionals, students not enrolled at the Monterey Institute, and current Monterey Institute students to participate at the site and time of their choice.

DPMI Monterey -Winterim (January) 2007

DPMI Monterey is offered from January 2 – 19, 2007 on the campus of the Monterey Institute of International Studies. The intensive three-week classroom instruction is enhanced by group work, career meetings with instructors, and real-time feedback on skills being developed. A DPMI Certificate is awarded after submission of a personal reflection paper, due three months following completion of DPMI.

DPMI DC - Summer (May-June) 2006

DPMI DC is offered from May 29 – June 16, 2006 at the Kellogg Conference Center at Gaulladett University in Washington, DC. This professional conference center offers a comfortable and centrally-located learning environment, with access to public transport and amenities, only two miles from the Mall, where the Library of Congress, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and Smithsonian museums are located.

There are hundreds of international development organizations headquartered in the Washington DC area. DPMI DC takes advantage of the location with organizational visits and informational sessions with hiring managers. The class meets Monday – Friday from 9am to 4pm, leaving ample time in the evenings and on the weekends to explore the area and attend events being held at development organizations.

DPMI Monterey/Ecuador - Summer (June-July) 2006

The DPMI Summer Monterey/Ecuador program offers the unique opportunity to attend the three week certificate program in Monterey, CA from June 26 – July 14, 2006. The intensive classroom instruction is immediately followed by a two week practicum to apply your newly acquired skills, in Quito, Ecuador from July 17 – 28, 2006.

The practicum, supervised by DPMI instructor Evan Bloom, consists of applied work with Pact Ecuador. Participants have the opportunity to observe the work of a development organization in a unique setting with access to experienced professionals in the field.
