My Institute Experience
Picture of Nüket Kardam, Ph.D.
I think that my students are first and foremost human beings and that we need to meet at that level, then they are my colleagues and friends. What I am there for is to offer what I know from my experience and research, but I am also there to learn from them and to learn together. My classes are reputed to be very interactive, inspiring and open environments for everyone to grow and learn together without worrying about making mistakes.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIAL PROGRAMS

The staff and faculty of the Graduate School of International Policy Studies (GSIPS) at the Monterey Institute take our students’ career development very seriously. GSIPS Career Development and Special Programs staff are ready to assist with career planning as well as providing international professional development opportunities and skills-focused certificate programs.

From their first day at the Institute, students become members of an elite worldwide network of professional colleagues who care about their success. This network includes more than 8,000 Institute graduates who have gone on to meaningful careers in government, intergovernmental organizations, international business, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in more than 100 countries. The Institute additionally maintains an exclusive network of employers who understand the value of a Monterey Institute education; numerous recruiters visit the campus each semester and also recruit virtually through our internal position posting system.

The GSIPS Career Development team focuses on empowering students to manage their professional development throughout their careers. In one-on-one meetings and workshops held throughout the year, we work with students to assess their skills and interests, research fields and organizations, develop the “toolkits” necessary within their field, acquire relevant professional development experience, build a network of mentors and resources and learn to market themselves for career success.

The Graduate School of International Policy Studies provides a set of offerings that tie together our students’ academic programs with professional development experiences that serve our students’ far beyond the classroom.
